Cornelius, NC - April 30, 2012- As anglers we know there are some tournaments we will always remember. David Hendrick of The Great Outdoors in Cherryville, NC and PAA touring pro had one of those days on Sunday, April 29th, in the 1st event of the 2012 Cashion Rods Tour. David was able to fish with his seven year old son, Logan, which is always special, but to win close to $8,000 in cash and prizes makes this a day they will never forget. “I just enjoy being on the water with Logan, and I wish we could fish more together but I promised him we would fish a tournament together this year. It worked out perfect with our schedules to fish the Cashion Rods Event on Lake Norman”, said David. With the day Team Hendrick had on Sunday, they will be fishing a lot more tournaments together in the future.

Team Hendrick had a solid game plan going into the tournament and planned to look for spawning shad and concentrated early fishing rocks and small marinas. “From what we found the shad spawn was not happening and we knew we needed to change our plan fast”, said David. Team Hendrick changed their game plan and started fishing pockets and going shallow, even looking for a few straggling bedding fish. The first good keeper of the day came on topwater throwing a Barry’s Custom Lures AM-P2 Prop Bait in the back of pockets.

“The water was 65 °F, so we went shallow in the back of pockets looking for bedding fish”, explained David. Team Hendrick found several beds of smaller fish that would not have helped their bag weight. Then they found a nice 2 pound buck locked to a bed with a 5 pound female close by. “We were able to catch the buck and then the female pulled up, but she was extremely skidish. I tried on and off for a 1 ½ hours to catch the female. I threw everything I had at her and backed off several times, but she was extremely weary”, described David. A 5 pounder is a huge deal on Lake Norman, and David knew that female would have all but sealed the win, however, they were never able to catch her. “It was very frustrating seeing the 5 pounder but not being able to catch her, plus throughout the day we lost a 3 and 4 pounder”, explained David.

The rest of their limit was filled with cruising fish caught on senko’s thrown with a Cashion P84369bs 6’9” Med power spinning rod. Team Hendrick caught a lot of fish and most of the fish they could see cruising, however, a few fish were caught around the shallow part of docks.

The first event of the 2012 Cashion Rods Tour was very successful and the competition on Lake Norman was fierce. We really appreciate the anglers and all they do for tournament Bass Fishing. We would like to thank Bass Pro Shops of Concord, NC for their sponsorship and continued support. Also, we would like to thank Brett Collins of the Carolina Bass Challenge and Carolina Angler Team Trail for conducting the weigh-in, along with Mid-Way Marina in Terrell, NC.
